Sharmane and I had the pleasure of being invited to Thomas’s at Burberry Café for their afternoon tea. I remember spending my first ever fashion week here and visiting after shows. I can recollect the calm, tranquil atmosphere and eating extremely high quality British food. The afternoon tea really is a wonderful treat.
At a great value from £32 it’s the perfect pit stop after shopping on Oxford street, hidden away off regent street. Not only that, it’s a gorgeous place to go with friends, clients and even a great spot for mother’s day. I personally love afternoon teas and have tried some of the best in town. This is by far one of my favorites in terms of accessibility, quality and price. The top dessert tray had an assortment of cakes with some of them laced with 24k leaves. They varied in style and each one individually tasted like a slice of heaven. The desserts were almost too pretty to eat. My sweet tooth was very comfortably satisfied along with hot warm scones, clotted cream, strawberry and blueberry reserves. My favorites were the lilac fondant, Caramel crémeux and the cutest sized victoria sponge. Additionally, The finger sandwiches were freshly made and were the ideal savory snack.
The tea was from Lalani & Co and was a 2nd Flush Grand Reserve from Darjeeling, India. This batch was picked from Makaibari Garden in Darjeeling. The garden was the first to be organic certified in Darjeeling and possibly the world. I did some research and apparently a tiger also lives in the garden! I am a bit of a tea junkie and admire the process of tea cultivation from start to finish, (especially organic tea) I remember visiting the tea plantation in Sri lanka on my honeymoon and I felt at one with nature. In the glass teapot, the tea was a coppery orange hue. We allowed it to cool as this opened up its taste. It was a sweet-grape like taste and complimented great with both desserts and finger sandwiches.
The interior is sophisticated and elegant with high ceilings, large windows and French-esque walls. The lighting is great and you can watch the day go by as the windows allow you to ‘soak’ a view of London whilst indulging in your treats. The café itself has two floors but the top floor being the best. We were led up through the marble staircase and when you approach the floor, the setting is just perfect. Little details like the cutlery and the crockery having the logo embossed on them gives the table setting a perfect touch.
When you get time you must visit, you won’t be disappointed.
