Searcy’s At The Gherkin

written by Sasha Wilson May 17, 2016

Hi Guys,

Hope you are all doing great, I visited Searcys inside the monumental building, The Gherkin. 30 St Mary Axe (widely known informally as The Gherkin and previously as the Swiss Re Building) is a commercial neo-futuristic skyscraper in London’s primary financial district, the City of London.

I came for a lunch date my partner organized, and I just had to share it with you! If you are visiting London as a tourist, I HIGHLY recommend this experience. It is usually private but occasionally, they do open it for the public within a first come first serve basis, so I would check their site regularly to get a reservation.

The stunning Private Dining Rooms on level 38 can be hired throughout the day and evening. Perfect for intimate breakfasts, lunches, exclusive dining experiences and small drinks receptions.

Also located on this floor is the Private Members Lounge, which can be hired exclusively for amazing weekend functions, including engagements, weddings, which is a very cool. I’m a massive fan of Eastenders, (famous British soap) and although I don’t have time to watch it anymore, I will never forget the very famous villainess Jeanine butcher getting proposed too in here. Also if you are a massive fan of marvel, Thor 2 (The dark world) was filmed here with the scene of Dr Jane foster going on a date here too, which was super awkward and funny as hell if you haven’t watched it!

You really do have a panoramic view of the whole of London, You can literally see everything, The humongous London bridge for example, looked small and dainty in the view but every detail of it could be seen from so high up.

My partner ordered the veal option with braised shin, grelot onions, carrots and garlic cream. I had ordered the Halibut with potato gnocchi, morels, asparagus and sauternes sauce. The whole thing just melted in my mouth; on the appetizing scale it was a 10/10. We had two glasses of champagne (Besserat de bellefon blanc de blancs) of course, which were a lovely touch to the lunch.

The presentation of the food was a great standard. My only honest opinion is the customer service was good but could of been just a tad better. My partner joked and told me because I had eaten at Michelin starred restaurants I was being slightly pernickety. Despite him saying this, he did agree with me. Michelin star or not, providing an experience in such a wonderful, breathtaking environment is important, regardless.

It was a bright sunny day and I am extremely lucky as it began to rain as soon as I left, which was super fortunate. It was a great dining experience and super appropriate for an intimate, relaxing lunch. I will definitely like to try dinner at some point. Views like the one you experience in here, really does make you admire London so much more. Additionally, it gives you such a tranquil, Zen like feeling. If they held yoga or pilates with that same view, my life would be complete and I would never ever miss a session.

Other places with similar views include the Shangri-La inside the Shard, Sushi samba and the Duck & waffle. All beautiful for different reasons but the feeling they give for being that high in the sky is truly unique, any problem you have disappears for a little while as you soak up the atmosphere. Tickets for New Years Eve and Christmas range from £150-290 pounds per person, I am seriously thinking about coming here for New Years Eve, The vibe will be memorable and something you will never ever forget, especially with loved ones, with the best view in London you can’t go wrong.

Hope you guys have a great week,

Carpe Diem Mermaids & Mermen,

Love Sasha
